Gauff stops tennis talent – Swiatek in a hurry

The 16-year-old Russian Mirra Andrejewa missed the next surprise at the French Open. After winning the first set, she had to admit defeat to Cori Gauff. The top favorite remains dominant.

Last year's finalist Cori Gauff ended tennis talent Mirra Andrejewa's winning run at the French Open in the third round. The 19-year-old American won the teenage duel with the 16-year-old Russian 6:7 (5:7), 6:1, 6:1 in Paris on Saturday and reached the round of XNUMX.

World number one Iga Swiatek moved quickly into the next round. The defending champion from Poland dominated the Chinese Wang Xinyu at will and inflicted the maximum penalty in tennis on her opponent with 6:0, 6:0 in just 51 minutes. Swiatek has won four of her six sets in this tournament to zero.

After the first round, Andreeva could hope for the next surprise. She had celebrated the previous five victories in qualification and in the main draw on her Grand Slam debut without losing a set. However, Gauff calmly took advantage of her experience and is in the top 16 at the clay court classic in Paris for the third time in a row.

Andrejewa openly showed her frustration several times: after missing a set point, she thundered a ball towards the spectators and threw the racket angrily in the second set. She is considered one of the biggest talents on the women's tour. According to organizers, the Russian is the youngest player to win a match at the Stade Roland Garros since 2005. “She has a great future ahead of her,” praised Gauff after the game.
