Giacomini and Mayr win the Open tournament in Bruneck

A total of 203 players took part in the traditional Puster Open tournament this year. The top favorite among the men was once again Patrick Prader. The 31-year-old Barbian, who won the last four Open tournaments in Meran, Kaltern, Bozen and Brixen, defeated Horst Rieder from Völs from TC Rungg 6:1, 6:1 in the semifinals. In the final, Prader met the 2.2 player Luca Giacomini from TC Triestino, who defeated Tommaso Gabrieli 6:2, 6:3 in the second semifinal. Giacomini also played well in the final and ended Prader's winning streak with a 2:6, 6:3, 6:2 win. For winning the tournament he received 600 euros in prize money and a helicopter flight for two people.

The women's victory went to Julia Mayr. The Olanger woman celebrated her 26th birthday a week ago. Seven years ago she was already number 215 in the WTA world rankings and also lived up to her role as favorite in Bruneck. In the final, Mayr defeated the surprisingly strong Sofia Pecorare from Lazio 6-0, 6-0. Pecorare fought his way from qualifying to the final without losing a single set. However, she had no chance against Mayr; the Puster native only played two games in the entire tournament.

Niederkofler and Sabbadini win 4th category In the 4th men's category, Christian Niederkofler from Sesto prevailed. The 4.4 player from TV Niederdorf retained the upper hand in the final against number 3 seed Stefan Tolpeit 6:0, 4:6, 6:2. In the women's category, Chiara Sabbadini was at the top. The Lombard clearly won against Giorgia Dalle Grave from TC Ladinia in two sets 6:3, 6:0.
