Val Gardena: ITF main draw has been determined

Eight players from seven different nations made it into the main field, which starts tomorrow with the Val Gardena women Verena Hofer and Laura Mair and the Pusterian Silvia Saccani.

On Sunday, the top-seeded Russian Natalia Orlova was surprisingly eliminated in the second, decisive qualifying round. However, the Greek Sapfo Sakellaridi made a really strong impression, having only played a total of five games in two matches so far.

The Italians Chiara Giaquinta (beat Vera Ploner on Saturday) and Chiara De Vito (eliminated Greta Zwerger), the German Nora Niedmers (won against Marion Viertler), the Swiss Adrina Peer, the Croatian Iva Zelic, also qualified Czech Nikola Breckova and Slovakian Klara Ondrejcekova. The number 4 in the qualification, Katerina Tsygourova from Switzerland, had to admit defeat to Giaquinta on Sunday, but came into the main draw as a lucky looser.
