Hoang and Ivashka play for the title in Val Gardena

The winner will receive 80 world ranking points and prize money of 6190 euros. World No. 113 Ivashka eliminated No. 3 seed Russian Aslan Karatsev 6-4, 6-4 today. Before that, Hoang won the first semi-final against his French compatriot Alexandre Muller 3:6, 6:2, 6:2. Ivashka won the only duel between the two finalists so far two years ago in qualifying for the ATP tournament in Antwerp with 6:3, 6:3. Ivashka also goes into the final as a slight favorite against Hoang, who is currently ranked 126th in the world.

The second semi-final between Ivashka and Karatsev didn't promise too much. The two played a great game in which the Russian managed the first break in the second game and took the lead 4-1. But then Ivashka came along, won seven games in a row and managed to take Karatsev's serve three times in a row and take the lead 6:4, 2:0. The early break in the second set was enough to win the match, even if Karatsev tried everything. But Ivashka fended off a break point in the sixth game with an ace. When the Belarusian served to win the match, Karatsev had two more break points, but both times the return didn't land in the field. Ivashka made it into the final after 1:26 hours and will play for his second Challenger title this year on Sunday after winning in Istanbul.

Hoang will contest the fourth Challenger final of his career tomorrow and is chasing his second title after Eckental in 2018. Muller got off to a better start in the first semi-final. One day after the marathon victory over Illya Marchenko, he used his only break chance in the fourth game to take a 3-1 lead. That was enough to win the first set. Hoang got nervous, but he took advantage of his fourth chance to break 4-2 in the second set. The game then took an unexpected turn. At the end of the set, Muller suffered a strained abdominal muscle, conceded a second break to 2:6 after two double faults and called the physiotherapist onto the court to receive treatment. The injury hindered Muller, especially when serving in the third set. He even had to hit from below several times. It was not without effort that Hoang managed two breaks and thus made it into the final. Confident doubles victory for Begemann/Olivetti Andre Begemann from Germany and the Frenchman Albano Olivetti won the doubles title at the 11th edition of the Challenger tournament in Val Gardena. The big favorites had no trouble in the final on Saturday afternoon against the twins Ivan and Matej Sabanov from Croatia and won 6:3, 6:2 in exactly one hour.

Begemann/Olivetti didn't drop a single set during the tournament. They each receive prize money of 1335 euros and 80 points for the world rankings. Olivetti won doubles in Val Gardena for the second time. In 2016 he won with Kevin Krawietz, who was in action alongside Andreas Mies at the ATP Finals in London this week. Olivetti is the second player after Antonio Sancic to win twice in doubles in Val Gardena. The Croatian won in 2017 and 2019 and reached the final four times.

Hoang and Ivashka play for the title in Val Gardena

The number 2 seeded Belarusian Ilya Ivashka and the number 5 Antoine Hoang from France will play for the title in the final of the Challenger tournament in Val Gardena on Sunday at 11 a.m.
