Imola: Melissa fails in the semi-finals

Meliss (WTA 527) went into the game against Rubini (WTA 346) as a clear outsider and had a difficult time from the start. In the first set, the 21-year-old had to give up her serve for the first time when the score was 2:3 - as a result, Rubini pulled , who is seeded number two in Imola, to 5:2 and served safely on her own serve to make it 6:3.

In the second section, Meliss had even less things coming together: the Überetscher didn't bring home any of her serves and couldn't get a break either, so Rubini closed the bag with a final score of 59-6 after just 0 minutes of play.

Weis/Arreche lose double final in Tabarka Meanwhile, Alexander Weis from Bolzano and Nicolas Alberto Arreche from Argentina lost the doubles final of the $15.000 ITF tournament in Tabarka (Tunisia). The top seeds Weis/Arreche met the Dutch duo Maikel Borg/Max Houkes in the final. The match was very even from the start. Borg/Houkes won the first set 6:4 after half an hour. In the second half of the game, Weis/Arreche were already leading 5:2, but the Dutch secured three games in a row to equalize 5:5. A little later, the Italian-Argentinian duo won the tiebreak with 7:4 points.

The super tiebreak was hard to beat in terms of excitement. First, Weis/Arreche fended off two match points at 7:9, before shortly afterwards they were unable to convert even one match point at 10:9. After 1:55 hours of play, Borg/Houkes finally converted their third match point to make the final score 12:10.

For Weis it was his first defeat ever in the fourth doubles final of his career. Just 13 days ago, the man from Bolzano secured the title with the Austrian David Pircher in Tabarka.

Verena Meliss lost the first ITF semi-final of her career. The Kalterer woman clearly lost in two sets to the Italian Stefania Rubini at the $25.000 tournament in Imola on Saturday.
