In top form: Sinner shaves Rublev

Jannik Sinner and Miami: That just fits. The 21-year-old made it to the last eight in Florida for the third time in a row. At the Miami Open, Sinner now has a record of 12:2 wins. On Tuesday Andrey Rublev had to believe it. With a fabulous performance, Sinner beat the world number 7 6:2 and 6:4.

This was certainly one of Sinner's best performances of the season. Rublev had not yet given a sentence in Miami either. But what Sinner offered, especially in the first round, was extremely strong. After Rublev scored the first five points of the game, the South Tyrolean went on a run. For around 20 minutes, Sinner won almost every rally. His serves, which often led to an ace, were also excellent.

Rublev, on the other hand, had his problems with service. For example, the 25-year-old from Moscow didn't manage a single ace in the first set. In the end, Sinner scored a clear 6:2. In the second period, Rublev stepped up his game and initially served much better. When the score was 3:3, Sinner took advantage of his first break point and thus secured a preliminary decision in the game. After just 1:12 hours, the Pusterer finally served to win the match.

Favorite in the quarterfinals Sinner will now play against Emil Ruusuvuori (ATP 54) in the quarterfinals. The Finn then eliminated the Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp (ATP 32) in a marathon match (2:46 hours) 4:6, 6:4 and 7:5. Sinner has already played against Ruusuvuori four times at ATP level and won just as many times. So he will go into the match as the favorite. In the semi-finals there would be a reunion with Carlos Alcaraz, whom he recently lost in the semi-finals in Indian Wells. But that is still a thing of the future.

Jannik Sinner has demonstrated his top form. The Pusterer also pulled Andrey Rublev's tooth at the Masters tournament in Miami and confidently reached the quarter-finals.
