ITF: All South Tyroleans fail in qualifying

Verena Hofer was just one win away from qualifying for the main draw at the $15.000 tournament in Sharm El Sheikh (Egypt). After she was able to eliminate Salma Djoubri on Sunday, she met the German Amelie Intert on Monday. Hofer and Intert already faced each other in Cordenons in November. Back then, the Val Gardena woman had the upper hand, but now Intert took revenge for this defeat with a hard-fought three-set victory. The 20-year-old German won 7:5, 5:7, 6:0.

Val Gardena's Patric Prinoth and Erwin Tröbinger were already eliminated from qualifying at the weekend. Prinoth defeated the German Pelle Börma 6:7(4), 6:4, 6:4 in the first round, then lost to the Ukrainian Olexij Kolisnyk 1:6, 3:6, while Tröbinger already lost at the start against Kolisnyk's compatriot, Oleg Khotkow, lost 2:6, 2:6.

Alexander Weis, on the other hand, played at the ITF tournament in Santa Margherita di Pula. After the man from Bolzano easily won his first round match against Lucio Luciani 6:3, 6:2, he suffered a 696:7(6), 5:3, 6:0 defeat against the Japanese Naoki Nakagawa (ATP 6) after leading the set .

Manfred Fellin from Brixen played in Hammamet (Tunisia) after a seven-week break from the tournament. After a bye and a win without a fight in the first two rounds, he lost today in the third, decisive round against the Swiss Loic Perret (ATP 987) in two sets with 3:6, 0:6. Perret celebrated his third win in a row against Fellin.

Five South Tyrolean ITF players were in action at the weekend in Sharm El Sheikh, Santa Margherita di Pula and Hammamet. Everyone had to give up in qualifying.
