ITF Sezze: Verena Hofer fails in the semi-finals

Hofer competed in Sezze for the first time with her new trainer Karin Knapp. After victories against the Spaniard Julia Payola (6;2, 7:6) and the Swiss Katerina Tsygourova (6:2, 6:4), Hofer defeated the Italian Anna Turati in the quarterfinals after a tough fight with 7:5, 4: 6, 6:3.

On Saturday in the semifinals against Nastassja Burnett (ITA), who is currently number 646 in the world but was number 121 in the WTA ranking four years ago, Hofer had no chance and clearly lost 2:6, 3:6.

This meant that the Val Gardena native missed out on a place in an ITF final for the seventh time in her career and the third time this season.

Next week Hofer will play the $15.000 tournament in Cuneo, where Verena Meliss from Kaltern is also registered.
