ITF Sibenik: Meliss eliminated in singles, continued in doubles

Meliss had no luck in the draw in Croatia. With Johana Markova, the Überetscher woman immediately met the number 1 of the tournament. The 22-year-old Czech is number 390 in the world, Meliss is currently at position 502 in the WTA rankings. The 23-year-old from Kalter showed a very strong performance and won the first set 6:2. The second period of the game was also very even, which Markova won 6:4. In the third, decisive set, the Czech secured the break in the ninth game to make it 5:4. So Melissa's resistance was broken. After 2:29 hours of play, Markova prevailed 6:4. For Meliss, the tournament in Sibenik is not over yet. She is already in the quarterfinals of the doubles competition. Meliss and her Slovenian partner Manca Pislak beat the Croatians Kristyna Hrabalova/Barbora Miklova 6:2, 6:4 at the start yesterday. Mariana Drazic (CRO)/Dea Herdzelas (BIH) await in the quarterfinals on Thursday. Mair and Trocker fail in qualification Laura Mair and Moritz Trocker, however, were eliminated from qualifying for the $15.000 tournaments in Monastir and Sibenik. The 18-year-old Mair from Val Gardena initially eliminated the American Kendra Bunch 6:3, 7:6(2), and in the second round she also had the upper hand against Nour Gueblaoui from Tunisia 2:6, 1:6. In the third, decisive round, Mair had to admit defeat to the number 0 seeded Italian Anita Bertoloni 1:4, 6:1. For Moritz Trocker, Sibenik was the end of the second round. After the 21-year-old from Völs benefited from Mile Matic's abandonment at the start (Trocker was already leading 6:2), he met Evgenii Tiurnev in round 2. The 24-year-old Russian is an absolute top player and is in position 297 in the ATP rankings. Trocker kept up well, but had to bow down in the end with 2:6, 4:6.
