ITF Tour: All South Tyroleans fail to qualify

Verena Hofer was eliminated in the third and final qualifying round of the $10.000 tournament in El Kantaoui, Tunisia. The 17-year-old from Ortisei, who was seeded number 8, had a bye in the first round. She then shot down Britain's Antonia Smallbone 6-0 and 6-2. Today Hofer had to admit defeat to the French Clara Tanielian 6:7(5), 5:7. In the second set, the Val Gardena woman was already leading 5-2 with two breaks, but then lost five games in a row. The 18-year-old Frenchwoman won the doubles tournament in El Kanatoui with Spain's Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar last week. The 23-year-old from Merano Jasmine Ladurner (WTA 1028), however, was in action at the $10.000 tournament in Orlando, Florida. Ladurner was seeded number 9 in the qualification and defeated the Russian Alisa Rudenko in three sets 4:6, 6:3, 6:4 in the first round. The team was eliminated in the second round on Monday evening. Ladurner lost to wild card Stefanie Stojic from Australia 3:6, 4:6. At the $10.000 tournament in Antalya, Turkey, 18-year-old Brixner Joy Vigani seeded number 11 in qualifying. Vigani defeated the Swedes David Johansson (6:3, 6:4) and Sam Taylor (7:5, 7:6) in the first two rounds. Today he had to admit defeat to the top seeded Brazilian Jose Pereira, number 404 in the ATP world rankings, 2:6, 2:6 in the third and final qualifying round. Pereira has competed in a total of seven futures in Antalya since January and won two. He lost twice more in the final and once he reached the semi-finals. There were two first-round defeats in two other $10.000 futures tournaments David Kostner and Alexander Weis . The 20-year-old Kostner from Val Gardena lost 1:6, 0:6 in El Kantaoui against the Italian Simone Roncalli, who was two years his junior, while the 17-year-old Weis lost 2:6 in Pula, Croatia, against host Antun Vidak. Lost 1:6.

The South Tyroleans Verena Hofer, Jasmin Ladurner, Joy Vigani, David Kostner and Alexander Weis played in five different ITF tournaments this week. All five failed to qualify.
