ITF Tour: Verena Meliss gets world ranking point

Meliss prevailed against the Italian Marianna Natali in the first round on Monday afternoon. The Kalterer woman won the first set 6:2, narrowly lost the second section 4:6 and was leading 4:1 in the third set when her competitor gave up. With this, Meliss won a world ranking point. She is currently ranked 1111th on the WTA computer. The 19-year-old will face either top seed Cristina Ferrando (Italy) or her first round opponent Leonie Kung (Switzerland) in the second round.
