ITF: Weis and Fellin fight for a place in the main draw

Horst Rieder, Moritz Trocker, Patric Prinoth, Alexander Weis, Erwin Tröbinger and Georg Winkler all played in the $15.000 tournament in Kramsach, Austria.

For Horst Rieder from Völs and Erwin Tröbinger and Patric Prinoth from Val Gardena, it was already over in the first round. Rieder lost to the Austrian Gabriel Schmidt in two sets 3:6, 3:6, while Tröbinger was defeated by Edward Hubner from Switzerland 3:6, 2:6. Prinoth, however, said goodbye to Alexander Weis in the South Tyrolean derby with a clear 1:6, 2:6 defeat. But Prinoth is still in the main field in doubles, together with the Austrian Manuel Bellutti.

The 20-year-old Weis from Bozen then easily prevailed in the second round against the German Henry Zick 2:6, 1:6. In the third, decisive round tomorrow, Monday, he will face another German, Patrick Nystroem. The game was canceled today due to rain when the score was 1-1 for Weis.

Georg Winkler from Völs beat local hero Markus Neuhauser 6:0, 6:3 at the start before losing out in the second round match against number 8 seeded Australian Nicholas Horton 2:6, 4:6.

For another Völser, Moritz Trocker, the tournament also ended in the second round. The 17-year-old South Tyrolean defeated Fabian Kerkletz from Austria 6:1, 6:0, but then had to bow to the Dutchman Mick Veldheer, number 4 in the qualification, in two sets 4:6, 6:7 (3).

Manfred Fellin in Georgia, Verena Meliss in Turin, Hofer in Sharm El Sheikh Manfred Fellin from Brixen and Verena from Kaltern, on the other hand, were in action in Telavi (Georgia) and Turin. Fellin is still in the race to get into the peloton. After a bye in the first round, he beat local hero Georgi Revazishvili 6:3, 6:1 today. Tomorrow, Monday, the South Tyrolean will face the Russian Savva Polukhin in the third, decisive round. Fellin also plays doubles with Croatian Domagoi Bijesko.

The Überetscher Verena Meliss, on the other hand, played the qualification for the 25.000 dollar tournament in Turin. The 19-year-old benefited from the Italian Dalila Spiteri's submission in the first round with a score of 5:1. In the following match, Meliss was defeated by her compatriot Stefania Rubini 4:6, 2:6.

Verena Hofer from Ortisei, on the other hand, will be competing in the main draw in Sharm El Sheikh next week. She got a wild card for the tournament in Egypt.
