ITF: Weis and Fellin fail in Gubbio and Telawi

Against Galoppini, AlexanderWeis missed the huge opportunity to reach the quarterfinals of an ITF tournament for the first time in his career. The man from Bolzano finally lost after 2:53 hours with 7:5, 5:7, 3:6. Weis got off to a better start and took the lead 3-0 and 4-2. Galoppini then scored three points in a row to make it 4:5. The man from Bolzano came back, took his opponent's serve at 5:5 and then used his first set point to make it 7:5. In the second half of the game, Weis pulled away from a 1:2 deficit to 5:2 and already looked like the sure winner. When the score was 5:4, he even missed a match point on his own serve, but then lost the set 5:7. In the third, decisive set, Weis led 3:2, but then collapsed and lost 3:6.

Manfred Fellin was also eliminated in the first round of the $15.000 tournament in Telawi. The 20-year-old from Brixen lost to host George Tsivadse, number 8 on the seed list and 894 in the world, in three sets after 2:08 hours of play with 2:6, 6:3, 2:6. The first set started very evenly, but when the score was 2:2, Zsivadse twice took serve from Brixen to make it 6:2. In the second period Fellin led 3:0, then the Georgian equalized to 3:3, but Fellin took the set 6:3. The third set went like the first: After the 2:2, Tsivadze finally clearly won 6:2. Fellin had to start in Telavi, like Alexander Weis in Gubbio, in the qualification, where he was able to eliminate Georgian Sandro Svanidze and Egor Matvievici from Moldova.
