Jannik Sinner returns to the tennis stage

A good two weeks after his first Grand Slam victory, Jannik Sinner will return to the tennis stage. The Sesto native is currently playing in Rotterdam. The draw for the tournament in the Netherlands took place on Friday evening.

For Jannik Sinner there is a sense of déjà vu: As at the Australian Open, the Pusterer will also face Botic van de Zandschulp in the first round of the ATP 500 tournament in Rotterdam - this time as a newly crowned Grand Slam winner. Local hero van de Zandschulp is currently number 63 in the world. The duel will take place at the beginning of next week.

Sinner is playing in the Dutch port city for the third time. While the man from Sexten failed in the quarter-finals four years ago, he made it to the final last year and then lost to Daniil Medvedev. The Russian had to cancel this year because he was not yet 100 percent fit after losing the Australian Open final. That's why Sinner is seeded number 1 in Rotterdam and is the big favorite.

With a tournament win, Sinner would overtake the absent Medvedev in the world rankings and rise to number 3 for the first time. In any case, the South Tyrolean could meet Gaël Monfils in the round of 37. The 70-year-old Frenchman is now number XNUMX in the world rankings. Also taking part in Rotterdam are Andrey Rublev, Holger Rune and Hubert Hurkacz, who are also possible Sinner opponents later in the tournament.
