Cairo: Weis' final dream has shattered

The 22-year-old from Bolzano was defeated by Spaniard Jose Vidal Azorin (ATP 691) 1:6, 5:7 in the semi-finals in Egypt's capital. Weis was in an ITF singles semi-final for the fourth time in his career, having already reached the semi-finals twice this year in Tunisia and last year in St. Christina. Weis, number 4 on the seed list and 686th in the world, had no chance against his doubles partner Vidal Azorin in the first set. The 26-year-old Spaniard immediately moved ahead to 4-0 and shortly afterwards clearly won 6-1. In the second period, Vidal Azorin took the lead 5-3 with a break. But Weis didn't give up, got the rebreak to make it 4:5 and even fended off two match points in the following game.
