Karin Knapp celebrates her first tournament victory on the WTA tour

The triumph Jovanoski got off to a better start (2-0), but Karin Knapp countered immediately and first equalized to 2-2 and then even pulled ahead with two mini-breaks to make it 5-2. But Jovanoski also fought and was able to reduce the score to 4:5. The Ahrntaler took the eleventh point again, which meant she had two match balls. Knapp already used the first one and won 7:4. Exactly 2400 days after the first final in Antwerp, which she lost to world number one Justine Henin on February 17, 2008, she now achieves her first WTA triumph. From Monday, the Luttacher will climb back up from 280th place to 89st place with the 61 world ranking points she gained. She also won $43.000 in prize money today. A historic day that she will probably never forget.

Three more weeks in Asia Knapp will now travel on to China. Next week at the WTA tournament in Guangzhou (September 15th to 21st) the Ahrntal native will be in the main draw. However, she has to qualify for the two following tournaments in Wuhan (September 22nd to 28th) and then at the China Open in Beijing (September 27th to October 5th).
