Karin Knapp is making her comeback after ten months

The 30-year-old from Ahrntal celebrated her comeback in the A1 series with Stampa Sporting Torino in Prato, where she was beaten by Maria Elena Camerin 3:6, 4:6. “Of course I wanted to win the match because with a win we would have defeated Prato. So we have to be satisfied with the 2:2. Unfortunately, I'm still a little behind on the preparation, but I'm happy because the knee seems to be fine, even if it's a little swollen. This gives me a lot of confidence for the future. I don't know yet whether I'll be able to play again next Sunday. My goal is to return to the professional tour, perhaps as early as mid-December at the $100.000 ITF tournament in Dubai,” said the Ahrntal native.

Injuries again and again

Karin Knapp has always been set back by injuries in her career. In 2007, the South Tyrolean was even number 35 in the world, but the following year she had to miss the Olympic Games in Beijing after a heart rhythm problem. It was then that the first problems arose with her right knee, which still plague her to this day. Most recently, Knapp had knee surgery in February, for the fifth time in her career.

2015 after comeback to number 33 in the WTA rankings

After the South Tyrolean fell back into the top 600 in the WTA rankings, Knapp appeared to be back in 2015rd place in 33 despite the many injuries. During this time, the “Azzurra” also won its first two WTA tournaments, in Tashkent in 2014 and in Nuremberg a year later. In 2013 she also celebrated victory in the Federation Cup with the Italian national team.
