Knapp and Walzl are the new national champions - results

As has been usual for years, the national championship games were played on the clay courts of TC Bozen. Around 120 participants took part in six categories. In the men's open category there was a duel between the two players from TC Bozen, Stefan Knapp and Philipp Köll. The 33-year-old Knapp, brother of tennis professional Karin Knapp, first eliminated Fabio Campidonico in two sets in the quarter-finals, then eliminated defending champion Lukas Holzner 7:6 (3), 6:4 in the semi-finals and also missed out on winning the final from his teammate Philipp Köll, who is eight years his junior. He won in three sets 6:3, 2:6, 6:1 and was crowned national champion for the first time in his career.

18-year-old Sophie Walzl triumphs in the women's category

In the women's field there was the first surprise in the semi-finals when number one seed Silvia Saccani was knocked out of the tournament by Teresa Schwienbacher. In the final, the Ulten native, who is eligible to play for TC Meran, met Sophie Walzl. The 18-year-old from TC Rungg eliminated last year's finalist Elisa Crazzolara in the semifinals. Walzl also presented himself very confidently in the final and won easily in two sets 6:3, 6:3. For the player from Gargazon, it is the first national championship title after failing several times in the finals in the youth categories.

Wenter and Greif win the 3rd category

The new national champion in the third category is Rittner Marion Wenter from TC Bozen, who won the final against the top favorite from Kaltern, Luianta Moling, 7:6(4), 6:2. Moling's teammate Jonas Greif, however, won the men's final against the Terlan soccer player Armin Mayr. Greif brought Mayr, who won the fourth category last year, to his knees in three sets over two hours with 6:3, 4:6, 6:2.

In the fourth category, Alessio Filippi ended up at the top. In the final he had the upper hand against the 15-year-old Daniel Tavernini. The player from TC Druso emerged as the winner of the duel with a clear 6:3, 6:0. In the women's category, the surprise candidate from Sardinia, Sabrina Cannas, is the new national champion. The former C player defeated Martina Göller from Mals in two sets 6:4, 6:4 in the final.
