Kronplatz Open: Julia Mayr celebrates a successful comeback

Both Prader and Mayr celebrated a successful comeback in Bruneck. Former professional Julia Mayr played her first tournament since February 2013, although she still plays championships for Innsbruck (first division) and Mestre (Serie B). The Puster native, who celebrated her 1th birthday last Friday, has won eight $25 singles tournaments and 10.000 ITF doubles tournaments as a professional. In September 12 she was ranked 2010th in the WTA world rankings. In Bruneck she proved her class and didn't lose a single game during the entire tournament. In the semifinals, Mayr defeated Francesca Covi 215:6, 0:6, and in the final she also gave Covi's twin sister Elena the maximum penalty. She had previously eliminated Silvia Saccani from TC St. Georgen, who was number 0. Mayr now wants to take part in the Open tournament in Val Gardena next week.

Prader defends last year's title In the men's category, defending champion Patrick Prader also remained without losing a set. The 30-year-old from Barbian played his first open tournament this summer in Brunico because he has had elbow problems (“tennis elbow”) for a year. After winning 6:4, 6:1 in the semifinals against the 2.6 player Ottaviano Martini, Prader won the title against Michael Kerschbaumer from Brixen with 6:4, 6:4. Kerschbaumer eliminated his Val Gardena teammate Erwin Tröbinger 6:4, 6:1 in the semifinals. He previously threw number 2, Alberto Nieri (2.4) and number 5, Jacopo Bartolini (2.5) out of the competition. The title in the 4th men's category went to the former professional footballer Thomas Bachlechner, who benefited in the final from the task of his former coach and current coach of St. Georgen, Patrizio Morini. In the women's event, Waltraud Kirchler won the final against Tamara Berger 4:6, 6:3, 6:1.
