Kyrgios cancels the French Open, Thiem hopes

Australian tennis professional Nick Kyrgios has canceled the French Open in Paris, which begins on May 28th. Last year's Wimbledon finalist withdrew from the Grand Slam tournament on clay on Tuesday, according to consistent media reports.

The 28-year-old has not played a professional match since his knee operation in January; he had to cancel the Australian Open at the beginning of the year in Melbourne at short notice due to the problems.

The cancellation is also important for Dominic Thiem: The two-time Roland Garros finalist will now be in the main competition of the major the next time a player from the field of 128 cancels. The probability is now very high that Thiem will be there without a wildcard or qualification. There is still a big question mark behind the arrival of Rafael Nadal.

Wildcard still possible

On Monday evening, the organizers announced six wildcards, of which Thiem was not. However, Roland Garros gave out eight “free tickets” last year. It is entirely possible that the organizers have information that is not yet public and already see Thiem in the main competition.
