Here we go: Sinner and Seppi set up shop in Melbourne

Shooting star Jannik Sinner will return to the ATP tour after a break of almost three months. His last appearance was at the beginning of November in Sofia, where the 19-year-old from Sesto won his first ATP title against Vasek Pospisil. Sinner's third professional season begins next week. The Next Gen ATP Finals winner has spent the last two weeks in Adelaide with world number 2. Rafael Nadal is training and wants to climb further up the world rankings this year. Sinner, who is seeded number 4 in Melbourne and therefore has a bye at the start, is playing Down Under for the second time in his career. In the second round he will face either local hero Aleksandar Vukic (ATP 195) or Yen-Hsun Lu (ATP 1008) from Taiwan. Sinner also plays doubles with Hubert Hurkacz. At the start, the Italian-Polish duo meets the home team Scott Puodziunas/Calum Puttergill. Seppi meets a fellow countryman Andreas Seppi, on the other hand, was drawn a much stronger opponent. In round 36, the 1-year-old from Kalteren will face compatriot Salvatore Caruso, who is ranked 76th in the world. The match will be played on the night of Sunday to Monday. The two have already faced each other once in their careers, namely in 2017 at the ATP Challenger in Val Gardena, where Seppi was able to assert herself in three sets.

Seppi begins his 19th season as a professional tennis player in Melbourne. For the first time in 15 years in a row, the Überetscher did not end the season in the top 100 in the world. Coach Massimo Sartori's protégé played his last official match at the end of October in Nur-Sultan in Kazakhstan, and this year Seppi wants to attack again. The world number 106 has been in Melbourne since January 16th and wants to show his best tennis in February. Last year, Seppi reached the final (250 points) at the ATP 150 tournament in New York during this period, and before that he reached the second round (45 points) at the Australian Open. However, the tournament in the “Big Apple” has already been canceled this year. Sinner and Seppi's program After the “Great Ocean Road Open”, the two superstars will stay in Melbourne, where the first Grand Slam tournament of the year, the Australian Open, will take place from February 8th to 21st. Sinner and Seppi will once again be in the main draw there. After the Australian Open, Sinner is heading back to Europe, where he will be seen in Montpellier (February 22nd to 28th) and at the ATP 500 tournament in Rotterdam (March 1st to 7th). The following week the redhead from Puster plays in Marseille. Andreas Seppi is also registered for the ATP 250 tournament in Montpellier, where he has to qualify. It is still unclear where the Überetscher will play afterwards.
