Show of force lifts Sinner into round 3

On the one hand because he feels very comfortable in these conditions, on the other hand because the exact opposite is the case with his Argentinian opponent: Etcheverry has only played one indoor ATP tournament in his career and only won one match. This was clearly noticeable from the South American: he simply didn't have the weapons to even begin to defuse Sinner's game. It was a clear result, 11:6, 3:6, 2:6 in the end.

The differences between the two actors became apparent early on. While Sinner tried to get closer to the baseline and dictate the pace during the rallies, the 23-year-old Etcheverry was repeatedly sent on the move. The nimble Argentine defended well at times, but this tactic didn't work long-term. After defending himself with strong serves in the first service games, Sinner managed the break on the third attempt - and to zero. Winning the set was a formality.

Etcheverry, who only entered the top 100 in April of last year, switched in the second set - knowing full well that he had no chance with this passivity. Or rather, he tried to change. Sinner did not allow the man from La Plata to take the initiative. The world number 16 played with the set lead behind him. appeared even more liberated, delighted the spectators with spectacular point wins and successfully managed almost every attempt at the net. In short: Sinner played perfect tennis. And so after a little more than an hour it was already 6:3, 6:2.
