With the turbo into the finale! Sinner reaches for first title

The next milestone in Jannik Sinner's career has been reached: Thanks to the 6:3, 7:5 victory over Adrian Mannarino at the 325.615 euro Sofia Open, the young South Tyrolean is in the final of an ATP tournament for the first time. Sinner (ATP 44) only needed an hour and a half to eliminate the Frenchman (ATP 35) - a huge achievement. On Saturday, Sinner will face Vasek Pospisil (ATP 74) in the final, who defeated Richard Gasquet (ATP 49) 6:7, 6:2 and 6:0 in the semifinals.

Sinner has already shown in the previous rounds that he is extremely strong at the ATP 250 tournament in Sofia, in which he was, among other things, highly rated Martin Fucsovics (ATP 55) or alex deminaur (ATP 25) turned off. In the semifinals there was a duel with the indoor specialist Adrian Mannarino: But the 32-year-old left-hander was also shown his limits by the 19-year-old from Sesto. In his 3rd ATP semi-final, Sinner achieved his first victory. And: If the final wins, the tennis jewel would move into the top 1 of the world rankings.

In the first set, Sinner needed some time to get the engine running (he was already 1:1 behind in the first game), but then he increasingly took control of the game. Sinner always served his own serve confidently, while he took the service from his opponent in the 0th game: Sinner also benefited from two careless mistakes by the Frenchman, who first allowed the break chance and then the break. After just 30 minutes, Sinner converted his first set point to make it 6:2. 3 break chances fended off, one used In the second round the match was more even - also because Mannarino now took more risks. The result was some spectacular rallies, in which Sinner usually had the longer stamina. The Sesto native was also extremely strong when it came to his own serves: in the second set alone he had 2 aces, and over the course of the entire match he had 2. And yet the youngster also had to show strong nerves: Mannarino had a total of 6 in the 9th and 4th games Break chances, which Sinner always fended off confidently. When the score was 6:3, he found his first break opportunity of the set - and promptly took advantage of it to make it 5:5. The decision was also because Sinner served his last serve without losing a point. Side note: In the finish, Sinner scored 1 points in a row – fantastic!

On Saturday afternoon there will be another highlight in Sinner's career. With a final victory he could finally crown his already exhilarating 2020. By the way, this will also be the last match that Sinner will play this year.
