After the opening win in Rome: Alcaraz is number 1 again

The Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz started the ATP 1000 tournament in Rome with a victory and will be number one in the tennis world rankings again after the Masters.

After a bye, the 20-year-old defeated his compatriot Albert Ramos Viñolas 6:4,6:1 in the second round on Saturday. Alcaraz has already moved past Novak Djokovic in the ATP rankings by competing in Rome.

Against Ramos Viñolas, Alcaraz celebrated his 20th win in the 21st match on clay this year. Alcaraz, who recently won the tournaments in Barcelona and Madrid, is playing in Rome for the first time.

There he is the big challenger to the six-time winner and defending champion Djokovic, who is defending 1.000 points in Italy's capital. It is the first time this year that the two stars are taking part in the same tournament. A meeting is only possible in the final on May 21st. On the way there, Djokovic could face Jannik Sinner in the semifinals, who cleared his first hurdle with flying colors on Friday.
