Nadal foregoes Wimbledon and the Olympics

The 13-time French Open champion lost to eventual tournament winner Novak Djokovic in the semifinals. Nadal has 20 major victories like Roger Federer, Djokovic now has 19. Too short a break One reason for the cancellation of Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam tournament of the year, was the two-week break after the French Open. That doesn't give him enough time to recover after the strenuous clay court season. The Mallorcan made it clear that by renouncing he wanted to eliminate any risk to his future career. Nadal has already expressed pride that, despite his strenuous game, he has been on the professional tour for so long and so successfully. Nadal triumphed at Wimbledon in 2008 and 2010, and at the Olympics he won gold in singles in 2008 and doubles in 2016. The Olympic Games meant a lot to him and were always a priority for him as an athlete, the Spaniard wrote. “I found the atmosphere that every athlete should feel at least once,” explained Nadal. “I had the chance to experience three matches and the honor of carrying the flag for my country once,” Nadal recalled. The upcoming Games in Tokyo are subject to strict restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Nadal foregoes Wimbledon and the Olympics
