New season begins for Seppi and Knapp in Australia and New Zealand

Seppi flew to Perth on Christmas Day, where he will be in action at the Hopman Cup on Saturday. Italy, with Kalterer and Flavia Penetta, will meet Poland (December 28th), hosts Australia (December 31st) and Canada (January 2nd) in the preliminary round of this Mixed World Championship. All “Azzurri” games start at 3 a.m. CET and will be broadcast directly by Supertennis.

Seppi will play on Saturday against Grzegorsz Panfil (ATP number 288), who replaces Poland's number 1 Jerzy Janowicz (foot injury), on New Year's Eve against local hero Bernard Tomic (ATP 51) and on January 2nd against Milos Raonic (ATP 11). Seppi travels to Perth to the ATP tournament in Sydney, where he was eliminated last year in the semi-finals against Tomic.

On January 13th he will be in action at the Australian Open. Seppi has to defend 180 points there for the round of 1 last season. After two marathon games against the Uzbek Istomin and the Croatian Cilic, which he won after being 2:31 down in the fifth set, he had to admit defeat to the Frenchman Jeremy Chardy in four sets in the round of 2. If Seppi passes two rounds this year too, he will fly from Australia directly to Mar del Plata, where Italy will play the first round game in the Davis Cup against Argentina from January 10st to February XNUMXnd. On February XNUMXth he will play his first European tournament in Rotterdam.

Season just begins in Auckland

Karin Knapp, on the other hand, will play her first match of the new season in Auckland in New Zealand and then travel first to Hobart in Tasmania and then to the Australian Open, where she is in the main draw this year. Last year Knapp still had to qualify in Melbourne. There she defeated Jessica Moore, Corinna Dentoni and Alison Riske, but then had to admit defeat in three sets against the Portuguese Maria-Joao Koehler in the first round of the main draw. After the Australian Open, the Luttacher native will return to Europe and play at the WTA tournament in Paris from January 27th. On February 8th and 9th, Italy's Fed Cup team will play the first round game against the USA in Cleveland. National team player Barazzutti will probably also call up Karin Knapp for this match.
