Premiere successful: New South Tyrolean tournament series gets underway

From Friday afternoon onwards there was a fierce fight for points on the courts of the Ahrntal tennis club. After 3 days and many exciting games, the decisive phase began on Sunday afternoon. The tournament winner of the 3rd category was crowned favorite Lukas Crepaz from ASC Welsberg, who prevailed in a first-class game against Thomas Toniatti from ASV St.Lorenzen Tennis 5:3 and 4:0. In the women's final of the 3rd category, Carolin Hilber from ASV Taufers Tennis won against Verena Stolzlechner from ASC St.Georgen 4:1 and 5:4. The winners of the 4th category are Robert Elzenbaumer from ASC Olang (4:0 and 4:2 against Manuel Pipperger from TV Ahrntal) and Ruth Leimegger from ASC Welsberg, who benefited from the forfeit of her opponent Michaela Heissl from ASC St.Georgen in the final . These are the South Tyrol Rodeo Series The new format “South Tyrol Rodeo Series” consists of a total of 5 tournaments throughout Sütirol (Ahrntal, Vipiteno, Gargazon, Welsberg, Partschins) and a final Masters in Brixen. Those players who secure the most points in the tournament series move into the Masters and play for tickets to the ATP Nitto Finals in Turin. The game is played in the so-called rodeo mode, which is comparable to that known from the NextGen ATP Finals, i.e. the season finale for young players. The sets are shortened: To win a set, you don't need 6 games, but only 4 games won. “No-ad scoring” applies: If the score is 40:40, the next point decides who wins the game. And: If it comes to the 3rd set, a tiebreak will decide the game. The next SRS tournament will take place in Vipiteno from July 16th to 18th.

Last weekend the first stop of the South Tyrol Rodeo Series (SRS) took place in St. Johann/Ahrntal. The tournament series for all tennis players in the 3rd and 4th categories represents a new event format for South Tyrol.
