Qualification in Val Gardena – all South Tyroleans out

Seppi ended his great career, which brought him to 45.730th place in the world rankings, at the tournament in Ortisei worth 18 euros. From May 2005 onwards he was in the top 15 in the world rankings for over 100 years. He has won 3 ATP tournaments and played 67 Grand Slam tournaments. Seppi lost his only previous duel against Hanfmann at the Challenger in Bergamo five years ago with 4:6, 2:6.

The Czech Tomas Machac, currently number 1 in the world, will be number 13 at the 112th edition of the Challenger in Val Gardena next week. Machac will play against a qualifier in the 1st round. Number 2 is Chilean Nicolas Jarry (ATP 112), who was already ranked 38th in the world three years ago. In front of the Italian Luca Nardi (ATP 130), who received one of the three wild cards for the main field and will also compete against a qualifier at the start. A total of 12 players from Italy are already in the main field before qualifying. Qualification for entry into the main draw In qualifying, 24 players, a total of six Azzurri, will play for the remaining six places in the main draw on Sunday and Monday. The four South Tyroleans Patric Prinoth, Gabriel Moroder, Jonas Greif and Nicola Rispoli received a wild card for qualification from the organizer. None of the four local players made it into the main draw.

The 18-year-old local hero Gabriel Moroder clearly failed on Sunday against the 25-year-old Italian Giovanni Oradini (ATP 359) with 1:6 and 1:6. For the young man from Val Gardena it was his first experience at his home tournament. He comes from a sports family, father and sponsor Romed Moroder is the former head coach of the Italian national ski jumping team, after his years with the Austrians he is back at the Val Gardena ski club and the South Tyrolean national team; Brother Daniel is an active ski jumper.

Jonas Greif, who was two years older than him, was also eliminated; he lost to the Romanian Marius Copil (ATP 337) 1:6 and 3:6. Nicola Rispoli was eliminated against the German Matthias Bachinger (ATP 427), the game ended 7:6 (7:2) and 6:4 in favor of Bachinger. The last South Tyrolean Patric Prinoth also had to give up against Aldin Setkic (ATP 434) from Bosnia and Herzegovina after just 44 minutes and lost 1:6 and 0:6.

Qualification in Val Gardena – all South Tyroleans out

Andreas Seppi is in the main draw at the Sparkasse Challenger Val Gardena Südtirol and will face number 4 seed Yannick Hanfmann from Germany in his last tournament as a professional on Tuesday evening. The other four South Tyroleans all failed to qualify.
