Raven-black weekend for South Tyrolean tennis players

All five South Tyroleans already failed in qualifying. Only Verena Hofer from Val Gardena, who qualified directly for the main draw at Hammamet, is still there.

Georg Winkler was unlucky in Tunisia. After the Völser was able to clearly assert himself against the Mexican Victor Haddad 6:0, 6:0 in the first round, he had to play against the Australian Harrison Lombe in the second round due to an injury with a score of 2:6, 4:3, 6:0 give up.

For Moritz Trocker, however, there was an opening defeat in Hammamet. The 17-year-old from Brixen lost to the American Christian Langmo in two sets 1:6, 2:6.

Another Völser, Horst Rieder, went to Padova this weekend. Here he had to bow to his compatriot Michele D'Amico 2:6, 4:6 in the first round.

Manfred Fellin, however, narrowly missed making it into the main field. In Padova, the man from Brixen was able to shoot down his compatriot Alvise Montresor at the start of the tournament with 6:2, 6:2 and in the following round he defeated the Frenchman Constant de la Bassetiere in three sets with 6:4, 4:6, 6:1 , but today in the third, decisive round there was a 1:6, 2:6 defeat against the “Azzurro” Corrado Summaria.

Ladurner eliminated, Hofer in the peloton in Hammamet There was also nothing to gain for Jasmin Ladurner in Hammamet. After a bye in the first round, she clearly lost in the second qualifying round against the Canadian Maria Patrascu 2:6, 1:6. Only Hofer is still there. The Val Gardena native, who qualified directly for the main draw, will start the tournament tomorrow at 9 a.m. CEST against Russian qualifier Ekaterina Ovcharenko. In the doubles, however, Hofer and the Italian Maria Vittoria Viviani will face the German Amelie Intert and the Swiss Leonie Kung in the first round.

With Jasmin Ladurner, Georg Winkler, Moritz Trocker, Horst Rieder and Manfred Fellin, five South Tyrolean tennis players took part in the ITF tournaments in Hammamet and Padova.
