Riccardo Balzerani wins the ITF tournament in Bolzano

For Balzerani it is the second ITF tournament victory in his career after he was able to assert himself in Pontedera last year. The young talent from Rieti was eliminated in the quarter-finals in Bolzano in the last two seasons, but in 2017 he won the doubles with Corrado Summaria in the valley town.

Azzurro, seeded number 5, took the match into his own hands right from the start and quickly moved away to 3-0. Balzerani dictated the rhythm at will and did not allow Ejupovic to enter the game. After 47 minutes, the world number 504 converted. his second set point to make it clear 6:3.

In the second half of the game, however, Ejupovic was the better player. The 26-year-old from Weinheim took the service from his opponent in the sixth game to take a 4-2 lead. Ejupovic controlled this lead and also secured set 2 6:3.

In the decisive third set, Balzerani took the reins again, taking the service from the German twice and winning 6:2. In addition to winning the tournament, Balzerani can also look forward to 3.239 euros in prize money. “It was an incredible week for me. I was coming from a bad phase where I wasn't playing my best tennis. That's why I'm even happier with the tournament win. “Today I won thanks to my serve,” says the Italian happily.

Balzerani is now heading to Überetsch, where he will be competing in the main draw of the Sparkassen Trophy in Rungg from next week. “Of course I hope that I can continue my winning streak there too. The conditions are roughly the same as in Bolzano, but it will be very difficult again. But I will give it my all again,” promises Balzerani. Finalist Elmar Ejupovic is also registered for the $25.000 ITF tournament and will most likely play the qualification.
