Richard Weissensteiner confirmed as tennis president

Richard Weissensteiner received 43 votes. The former president of the South Tyrolean Winter Sports Association was elected president of the South Tyrolean Tennis Committee for the first time eight years ago. He was the first local sports official to head two different professional sports associations.

Weissensteiner recalled in his speech that under his presidency the number of members had grown steadily to almost 4.600. The South Tyrolean Tennis Association has over 400 teams and several international tournaments have been held in our province, 3 this season too, despite the Corona crisis: the ATP Challenger in Val Gardena and the two ITF women's tournaments in Ortisei and Selva .

Things also went very well for tennis during Weissensteiner's presidency, as three world-class players were produced in Karin Knapp, Andreas Seppi and young star Jannik Sinner. In addition, several young South Tyrolean players have managed to get involved in the ITF circus. Weissensteiner sees this as a great success, while he regrets that many tennis courts have disappeared in the state capital of Bolzano in recent years. However, in his new term of office he wants to work towards the construction of a new tennis hall in Branzoll. Of the “old” board members, Pietro Baruchello from Welsberg (36 votes) and Patrick Andergassen from Kalter (34 votes) were re-elected. The two people from Val Gardena, Marion Kostner (28 votes) and Davide Carrara (27 votes), are new to the committee. They replace Paolo Fellin from Brixen, Georg Ennemoser from Vinschger and Wolfgang Wanker from Val Gardena, who no longer ran.
