Sensation in the Forum Italico: Alcaraz is out!

On Monday he made himself comfortable again at number 1 in the world rankings, and now Carlos Alcaraz has already been eliminated in the third round of the Internazionali BNL d'Italia. Alcaraz had to admit defeat in two sets against the Hungarian Fabian Marozsan, 135th in the world rankings.

After an hour and 42 minutes, the embarrassment was sealed: Carlos Alcaraz, the leader in the world rankings again since Monday, was eliminated by the Hungarian Fabian Marozsan. And that after just 2 sentences. While Alcaraz only entered the tournament in the second round, Marozsan had to go through the entire qualifying process.

Alcaraz clearly lost the first set 3:6. In the fourth game, the Spanish super talent broke to make it 1:3, after which Marozsan didn't allow anything and confidently took the set. Things got more exciting in the second set. Again it was Alcaraz who gave the first break when the score was 3:3, but the Spaniard immediately made good with a rebreak. So it went to the tiebreak, in which Marozsan closed the bag with 7:4 and caused the big sensation.

Marozsan only lost to Weis

Curious: Marozsan played against Alexander Weis just three weeks ago. At the Challenger in Rome, the South Tyrolean won 6:4, 6:4. That's certainly a thing of the past for Marozsan, after all, the 23-year-old has put the world number one in his place.

Alcaraz was actually considered one of the big favorites for the Masters tournament in Rome and was placed at number 2. In the final he might have met Novak Djokovic or even Jannik Sinner if one of the two made it that far. Incidentally, Sinner continues on Tuesday against the Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo.
