Seppi unlucky in Budapest

Andreas Seppi, who was directly in the main draw thanks to his ranking, met qualifier Filip Krajinovic at the start. From the start, the Kalterer was against the world number 104. from Serbia, however, difficult.

Seppi, who had to defend 90 ATP points from last year and slipped to 62nd place in the world rankings this week, missed the start of the match and was immediately behind 1:4. Krajinovic left no stone unturned and soon after secured the first set with 6:2 points.

In the second half of the game, Seppi fended off four match points in the ninth game before reducing the score to 4:5. In the following game, after fending off a fifth match point, he managed the rebreak to make it 5:5. The Überetscher now played better and was able to secure the tiebreak 7:3 shortly afterwards.

In the third, decisive set, the game was very even from the Serb's point of view until the score was 6:5. Then Krajinovic Seppi took the serve to zero and after 2.39 hours of play, somewhat surprisingly, was able to hold on 7:5. So Seppi still has to wait for his first clay court win of the season after he was eliminated in round 1 against Lorenzo Sonego in Monte Carlo.

Seppi crashes This means that the Kalterer player has lost further places in the world rankings. After the tournament in Budapest, Seppi is ranked 66th at best.

For Seppi, the tournament in Budapest is already over. The Kalterer native would have actually played doubles with compatriot Marco Cecchinato, but he had to miss the game due to illness.

The 17-year-old Jannis Sinner from Sexten missed out on making it into the main draw due to a defeat on Sunday (SportNews reported) .
