Seppi in Halle in the quarter-finals - Monfil's next opponent

Andreas Seppi got off to a dream start against the Spaniard, who was seeded fifth. Because after a 15:40 deficit and two game balls for Tommy Robredo, the 31-year-old from Kalterer used his second break opportunity to take a 1-0 lead. In the following three games, the server delivered his service very confidently before Seppi managed the second break after just over 17 minutes of play, this time making it 4-1.

As a result, the Überetscher even moved ahead to 5:1 on his own serve. Robredo was then able to score the second point in the match before Andreas Seppi converted the third set point after just under 29 minutes and won the first period of the game 6-2.

Robredo fends off match point and takes the second set

In the second set, Robredo brought his service through at the start and took a 1-0 lead. The world number 20 then took Seppi's serve for the first time and made it 2-0. But the Kalterer man was able to strike back immediately – and how. Because Seppi won the next four games in this anything but high-class game with many mistakes from both players and suddenly led 4:2.

But Robredo countered, first shortened the score to 3:4 on his own serve and then took the service from the South Tyrolean for the second time in this section of the game. Afterwards, both tennis professionals served and it went to a tiebreak.

There the Spaniard pulled away to 3-0, but Seppi's answer wasn't long in coming. The South Tyrolean scored the next four points and led 4:3. With the score at 6:5, Seppi had a match point. But Robredo fended this off and then converted his first set point (8:6).

Lots of mistakes on both sides

The third set also remained exciting - and still anything but top-class. Seppi took a 1-0 lead, but was already 0:40 behind in the second game. The South Tyrolean then scored nine points in a row and was now leading 3-0. Both players then served their serve.

With the score at 5:2 from Seppi's point of view, the world number 45 had match points two to four when Robredo served, but the Iberian was able to fend them all off and shorten it to 3:5. Afterwards, Seppi was finally able to celebrate making it to the last eight when he converted the sixth match point to win 6:3, 6:7 (6), 6:3.

For Seppi it was the fourth victory in the eleventh duel with the 33-year-old Robredo. Gael Monfils is now waiting for Seppi in the quarterfinals. The Frenchman celebrated three wins in the four duels so far. However, Andreas Seppi won the last meeting three years ago in Metz.
