Seppi is unstoppable: semi-final in Sydney

The 34-year-old from Kalter surprisingly defeated the top seeded Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, number 15 in the world, 6:4, 4:6 and 6:4 on the night from Wednesday to Thursday and moved into the semi-finals. Here he meets the Argentinian Diego Schwartzman (ATP 19), who eliminated the Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka (ATP 75) on Thursday.

After his two opening victories against Frenchman Jeremy Chardy (ATP 36) and Slovakian Martin Klizan (ATP 40), Andreas Seppi was also able to eliminate 20-year-old Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarterfinals in Sydney on Thursday. The match was very even from the start, with Seppi winning the first set and Tsitsipas winning the second set.

Victory with routine and class In the third, decisive section of the game, Seppi showed off all his routine and class. When the score was 4:3 for Tsitsipas, he first canceled two of his opponent's break points, then equalized to 4:4 and immediately afterwards took the Greek's serve to make it 5:4. With that the match was over. After 2:09 hours of play, Seppi finally used his first match point to make the final score 6:4.

Seppi is in an ATP semi-final for the 30th time in his career, the second time in Sydney after 2013. Six years ago he lost to the Australian Bernard Tomic 6:7, 4:6. By reaching the semifinals, Seppi has already secured 90 ATP points and $27.175 in prize money. With today's victory he has successfully defended the 80 points from last year's triumph at the Challenger tournament in Canberra.
