Seppi scores an opening success in Lyon

The 33-year-old from Kalter won his first round match against the Bosnian Damir Dzumhur (ATP 96) in two sets, after 1:48 hours of play, 7:6(5), 6:4.

The game between Seppi, who slipped back to 83rd in the world rankings, and Dzumhur was very even. Right at the start, Seppi managed the break to make it 2-0, but then he received the rebreak in return. When the score was 3:4, the Bosnian took the service from Kalterer, but this time Seppi made the rebreak. Both players then carried through their serves and so this exciting first set went into the tiebreak, where Seppi showed nerves and converted his second set point to make it 7:5.

In the second half of the game, Seppi managed the break to make it 3-2 in the fifth game. Shortly afterwards, the Überetscher pulled away with another break to make it 5:2 and thus set the stage for winning the match. Although Dzumhur made things exciting again with a rebreak, the “Azzurro” didn't let anything go and used his first match point to make the final score 6:4.

In the second round, the Kalterer will face the Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili, who knocked out the number 7 seeded Croatian Borna Coric at the start. Seppi has never played against the world number 71, who won the Sparkasse tournament in Rungg in 2013.

Seppi scores an opening success in Lyon

After the first round defeat in Rome, Andreas Seppi returned with a victory on Monday afternoon at the ATP 250 tournament in Lyon, France.
