Seppi has to give up early in Mexico

The 35-year-old Kalterer (number 49 in the world) had to admit defeat to the Australian Nick Kyrgios, number 1 in the world, 13:72 and 3:6 after 5:7 hours of play. In the doubles, too, Seppi and the Chilean Nicholas Jarry lost in the starting round against the number 3 seeded Colombians Juan Sebastian Cabal/Roberto Farah 6:7, 3:6.

Seppi met Kyrgios for the fourth time in his career on Wednesday. In the previous duels, the Kalterer player left the field as a loser twice and as a winner once. Now the Australian prevailed again.

Kyrgios started the match with a break and took a 2-0 lead. When the score was 5:3, he took Seppi's serve for the second time and took the first set 28:6 after just 3 minutes of play. In the second period, Kyrgios pulled away to 4-1, but Seppi came back, took the Australian's serve for the first time in the seventh game and then equalized to 4-4. With the score at 6:5, however, Kyrgios used his first match point to make the final score 7:5 and will now face the top seeded Spaniard Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals, who clearly prevailed against Mischa Zverev.

In doubles, Seppi was eliminated on Tuesday alongside the Chilean Nicolas Jarry against the strong Colombian duo Juan Sebastian Cabal/Robert Farah after 1:27 hours with 6:7(2) and 3:6.
