Seppi fails in Munich because of an old acquaintance

Seppi lost to Philipp Kohlschreiber in two sets 2:6 and 5:7. The South Tyrolean botched the start of the match and was 1:5 behind with two breaks. After just 27 minutes he had to give up the first set 2:6. Things went better in the second half of the game. From Kalterer's point of view, both players were able to get their serve through until it was 5:4. In the tenth game, Seppi had a great chance to make it 6:4, but missed a set point before Kohlschreiber equalized to make it 5:5. In the following game the German did better and took the service from the “Azzurro” and then won 7:5.

The 35-year-old German, who is currently ranked 41st in the ATP rankings, celebrated his seventh win (in twelve matches) against Seppi. The “BMW Open by FWU” is considered Kohlschreiber’s favorite tournament as he has already won it three times. For Seppi (currently number 62 in the world), this marks the end of his fifth individual participation in the clay court tournament in Munich. His best result came five years ago when he reached the quarter-finals.

The 35-year-old from Kalter is not yet in top form this clay court season, having recently been eliminated in round 1 in Monte Carlo and Budapest. Seppi will play the doubles on Tuesday evening in Bavaria together with compatriot Marco Cecchinato. They will meet Danis Molchanov (UKR)/Igor Zelenay (SVK).
