Seppi plays Italy against Croatia in the Davis Cup duel

In addition to Seppi, Fabio Fognini, Paolo Lorenzi and Simone Bolelli are also in the Azzurri's four-man squad. Meanwhile, Marin Cilic, Ivan Dodig, Antonio Veic and Mate Pavic were called up to the Croatian team.

Seppi and Cilic only met in the third round of the Australian Open, with the South Tyrolean leaving the court as the winner after three hours and 38. Thanks to this success, Seppi will now appear in the world rankings for the first time on Monday in 18th place. Only three Italians have ever been better than the 28-year-old from Kaltern, namely Adriano Panatta (number four, 1976), Corrado Barazzutti (number seven, 1978) and Paolo Bertolucci (number twelve, 1973).

Italy will face Croatia for the third time in their long Davis Cup history. In both previous duels, the “Azzurri” were defeated 3-2. That was the case in Rome in 2001 and also seven years later in Dubrovnik. Four years ago Andreas Seppi was also there. The Kalterer lost a singles match against Mario Ancic in three sets 6:2, 6:4, 7:5, while he prevailed against Marin Cilic in five sets. The match ended 6:7 (7), 6:4, 6:4, 6:7 (3), 6:1 for the 28-year-old Überetscher.

In September 2012, the "Azzurri" secured their place in the World Group at the Davis Cup in Naples. Andreas Seppi secured the decisive victory in the 4-1 win against Chile.
