Seppi is in the final in New York

The 35-year-old from Kalter defeated Jason Jung (ATP 131) from Taiwan in the semi-finals after 1:25 hours of play in two sets with 6:3 and 6:2. In the final of the New York Open, Seppi will face Briton Kyle Edmund (ATP 62), who eliminated Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic (ATP 54) in the semifinals. The final will take place on Sunday at 22 p.m. (CET). For Seppi it is the 10th final on the ATP tour. Seppi took Jung's serve in the first game of the match. In the fifth game he made his second break and moved ahead 4-1. Jung managed the rebreak, but after 38 minutes Seppi used his second set point to make it 6:3. The second half of the game was similar. Here too, the Kalterer player took the lead 4:1 and then used his first match point to make the final score 6:2. By making it to the final, Seppi will secure $66.770 in prize money and, more importantly, 150 ATP points, which will take him back to 80th in the world rankings next week. Seppi with a negative record against Edmund In the final, Seppi meets Kyle Edmund. Against the Brit, who is ten years his junior, the Kalterer player has a negative record of four defeats against just one win. Seppi won the Masters 1000 tournament in Monte Carlo in three sets on clay two years ago, but lost all four direct encounters on hard courts in Antwerp in 2016, at the Australian Open and in Shanghai in 2018 and a few weeks ago in Auckland. Many South Tyroleans remember Edmund because he won the ITF Futures tournament in Bolzano seven years ago.
