Seppi before career highlight: Today in the final against Federer

On Friday, Gael Monfils had to give up against Andreas Seppi in the second set, and less than 24 hours later it was over for Kei Nishikori after just five games. The number two seeded Japanese player had already started the game with a calf injury.

Seppi landed a break right at the start of the encounter and made it 2-0 a short time later with his own service. Afterwards, Nishikori gained a foothold for a short time, but then showed little resistance in Seppi's second service game. After Seppi's second break to make it 4-1, the Asian finally broke off the match with a pained face.

In the direct duel with the current number five in the world, Seppi equalized 2-2. Due to the circumstances, he was hardly happy after the semi-final victory - even though the 31-year-old Überetscher made it to the final of an ATP 500 tournament for the first time. Overall, it is his eighth final appearance in the ATP circus.

Will Seppi create a sensation again?

In the final on Sunday afternoon, Seppi will face his "majesty" Roger Federer, who defeated Ivo Karlovic 7:6, 7:6 in the second semi-final duel and is now only one step away from his eighth (!) tournament victory in Halle. This is the 13th meeting between the world number two from Switzerland and the South Tyrolean. The 33-year-old from Basel won them all - except for the duel at the beginning of this year at the Australian Open, in which Seppi sensationally triumphed in four sets. Federer then took revenge with a two-set win in India Wells.

The final in Halle is on the program from 13 p.m. ZDF, Eurosport and SuperTennis broadcast live.

Seppi is Italy's number one again

With the win against Nishikori, the Kalterer native is already guaranteed prize money of 172.100 euros and a total of 300 world ranking points before the final match. He thus overtakes Fabio Fognini in the ranking and becomes the best-placed Italian tennis player. He climbs to at least 27th place, which means he will be seeded at Wimbledon in two weeks.
