Series A2: Rungger teams start with a draw

Last week the Überetscher teams started the play-off with two wins. For the men, Rungg won away in Pavia with 5-1 points, while the women beat Bari 3-0 at home.

The men's team gave up the win against TC Sinalunga on Sunday and had to settle for a 3-1 draw at home after leading 3-3. After the four individual matches, the team from Girlan was already 3-1 ahead. The two Völsers Moritz Trocker and Georg Winkler as well as the Spaniard Mario Vilella Martinez won the Rungger points. Marco Bortolotti, on the other hand, had to admit defeat to former top 100 player Luca Vanni in two tiebreaks. In the doubles, Vanni/Yannick Mertens had the upper hand against Bortolotti/Vilella Martinez in the super tiebreak with 3:6, 6:1, 12:10. The two homegrown players Trocker/Sebastian Brzezinski also lost out to Serafini/Gigante in the super tiebreak.

The TC Rungg women's team already hosted SC Casale on Saturday. Verena Meliss from Kaltern shot Stefania Rubini from the field 6:3, 6:4. Martina Spigarelli had the upper hand against Lisa Pigato, while the Swiss Susan Bandecchi lost to the Romanian 1.1 player Mihaela Buzarnescu 3:6, 5:7. In doubles, Rubini/Pigato secured the final score 2:2 against Meliss/Spigarelli.

Both second legs will take place in one week, on December 8th, in Siena and Casale Monferrato respectively.

Series A2: Rungger teams start with a draw

The playoff first legs of the Serie A2 national tennis championship were played at the weekend. Both the men's and women's teams at TC Rungg couldn't get beyond a draw.
