Victory against Alcaraz! Sinner in the Miami final

It was the match that all tennis fans in Miami were waiting for. Sinner and Alcaraz met at the Hardrock Stadium on Saturday night (from 1 a.m. CEST). In the end, Jannik Sinner prevailed after 3:03 hours of play with 6:7(4), 6:4 and 6:2. Sinner will now face Daniil Medvedev in the final. The Russian, who is currently number five in the world, won the first semi-final against his compatriot Karen Khachanov 7:6 (7:5), 3:6, 6:3.

The match between Sinner and Alcaraz lived up to high expectations. Just two weeks ago, the defending champion from Miami defeated Sinner in straight sets in the Indian Wells semifinals. This time the South Tyrolean got the upper hand and made it 3:3 in the direct duel against Alcaraz. Incidentally, this was the first time that Sinner defeated a world number one.

The first set between Sinner and Alcaraz in the semifinals of the Miami Open was perhaps the most high-profile. The Pusterer took the lead 3-1 after an early break. With the score at 4:2, Sinner won what was probably the most beautiful rally of the tennis year so far. Nevertheless, the 21-year-old had to give up his serve game to the Spaniard. In the end the first set went into a tiebreak. Sinner was already leading 4-2, but Alcaraz took the next five points and thus the first set.

Sinner turns the game Sinner was not shocked by the loss of the first set. On the contrary: the man from Sexten showed strong nerves in the second section and fended off several break points when the score was 4:4. He then took over the service from Alcaraz and balanced the rates.

The third section began for Sinner – like the second – with a break. In this phase, the 21-year-old was highly superior to his opponent from Murcia and scored 19 out of 21 points - also because Alcaraz had physical problems at the beginning of the third period. The 19-year-old literally dragged himself across the pitch, but never gave up. As Sinner, who returned excellently that day but then took a 5-2 lead with a break, the thing was as good as over. The Pusterer then served to win the match.

Now Sinner is in the final for the second time at the Masters tournament in Florida. He lost the first two years ago against Hubert Hurkacz. If he were to win against Medvedev on Sunday (from 19 p.m. CET), it would be the biggest title in his young career.
