Doubles victory: Successful Sofia start for Seppi

The 34-year-old from Kalter and his compatriot Simone Bolelli prevailed in the first round of the doubles against number 2 seeds Dominic Inglot (GBR)/Franko Skugor (CRO) 6:3, 1:6, 11:9 and qualified for the quarterfinals.

Seppi/Bolelli took a 3-1 lead with a break in the first half of the game, then served extremely well and took the set 25-6 points after just 3 points. Afterwards, Ingolt/Skugor came up trumps and moved away first to 4-0 and then to 6-1. So this game had to be decided in a match tiebreak.

The two “Azzurri” missed their first match point when the score was 9:8, but they used the second one after 1:02 hours of play to make the final score 11:9.

In the quarterfinals, Seppi/Bolelli will meet the winners of the game between Nikola Mektic (CRO)/Jürgen Melzer (AUT) and Santiago Gonzales (MEX)/Aisam Ul-Haq Qureshi (PAK).

In singles against Marton Fucsovics On Wednesday Seppi will also play his first round singles match against Hungary's Marton Fucsovics. Fucsovics, who is eight years younger, is currently ranked 47th in the ATP computer, while Seppi is number 37 in the world.

The Kalterer is taking part in the tournament in Bulgaria's capital for the fourth time in a row. In his first participation three years ago he reached the quarter-finals, but in the last two years he failed in the round of 16 to Steven Darcis and Gilles Muller.

This year Seppi, who is seeded number 8 in Sofia, will face a very unpleasant opponent like Fucsovics in the first round. Both players have faced each other twice so far in their careers, both times last year: Seppi won the first duel in Canberra in three sets, while the Hungarian was able to take revenge in Beijing with a 6:3, 6:4 victory.

Doubles victory: Successful Sofia start for Seppi
