Sinner impressed against Thiem

Just a day after his hard-fought victory against tennis oldie Tommy Haas Sinner lost in the semifinals against Thiem 3:6, 6:7 (5:7). However, he stood up to the overwhelming favorite from Austria, especially in the second set, with some impressive rallies and received repeated applause from the spectators in the Steffi Graf Stadium.

At first, the world number 73 still had teething problems and did not act nearly as confidently as Thiem when it came to service. By the start of the second set, Sinner was back to his old self: with a confident serve, powerful forehand strokes and enormous mobility on the baseline, he was now completely equal to his opponent. Sinner's buoyancy visibly spurred Thiem on and so the spectators repeatedly saw thrilling rallies - which finally culminated in the tiebreak.

With the score at 6:5, the Austrian made everything clear with his first match point and ultimately deservedly made it to the final. In the “small” final against Bautista Agut The Austrian will meet Matteo Berrettini there on Wednesday. The world number eight from Rome had previously prevailed against Roberto Bautista Agut at the grass event with 4:6, 6:3, 10:6. The experienced Spaniard, who is currently ranked twelfth by the world ranking computer, will face Sinner in the game for third place.

In the women's category, Elina Svitolina from Ukraine, fifth in the world rankings, is in the final after her 7:6 (7:2), 6:3 win over Anastasija Sevastova from Latvia. The opponent is the Czech Petra Kvitova. The two-time Wimbledon champion gave Kiki Bertens from the Netherlands no chance at 6:3, 6:2.

Sinner impressed against Thiem

Jannik Sinner is in strong shape despite the four-month Corona break: On Tuesday he impressed the Berlin audience in the semi-finals of the lawn invitational tournament “bett1Aces” against world number three Dominic Thiem.
