Sinner has the upper hand in the duel of top talents

Sinner (ATP 13) and Musetti (ATP 69), along with the 18-year-old Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz (ATP 42), are among the biggest promises in the tennis circus. They met for the first time at ATP level in Antwerp (Belgium) on Wednesday evening. The 20-year-old Sinner prevailed against Musetti, who was a year younger, 7:5 and 6:2.

One thing first: Sinner and Musetti played a high-class and fast-paced match in which both flashed their talent and made the hearts of Italy's tennis fans beat faster. Both served well in the first set. Until the score was 5:5, Sinner only had to fend off a breakball once. As the first half entered the decisive phase, Sinner increasingly applied more pressure and played more aggressively. In the end, the South Tyrolean was able to use his first break ball. He played the felt ball from a short distance onto the body of Musetti, who was standing at the net and could no longer react. As a result, Sinner played his serve without any problems and won the first set 7:5.

In the second set, Sinner set the tone from the start. After Musetti was able to fend off two break points, Sinner then hit the 19-year-old from Carrara (Tuscany)'s second service game and took the lead 2-1. Musetti then struggled with his nerves and even gave his next service a clean sheet. When the score was 5:1, Sinner had two match points, but Musetti didn't give up and reduced the score to 2:5. As a result, Sinner, who showed a more mature game, was no longer able to take the butter off his bread when he served and used his third match point. Now against Rinderknech Sinner will now face Arthur Rinderknech (ATP 65) in the quarter-finals on Friday. The 26-year-old Frenchman defeated the Serbian Dusan Lajovic (ATP 31) 6:3, 4:6 and 6:2. Sinner had played against Rinderknech once so far, namely at the ATP 250 tournament in May in Lyon. Back then, the Puster player lost after three sets.
