Sinner fulfills his duty: now against Nadal

Anyone who thought on Saturday that Ymer could get the almost unstoppable Jannik Sinner into trouble was disappointed. From the first game, almost from the first point, the spectators in the stands on Court 7 noticed that the two opponents - especially when it came to the hardness of their shots - were not equal. Ymer couldn't cope with the difference in pace throughout the match and only scored points when Sinner made mistakes. However, because these were limited and the Sexten player showed a strong match on his own serve, the 19-year-old secured his place in the round of 6 after around two and a half hours. He won 1:7, 5:6 and 3:XNUMX.

In the first two matches against Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Gianluca Mager, the youngster won the first set 6-1. As if Sinner's opponents were impressed by his incomparable, powerful game, Ymer initially found no means of countering it, gave up his serve a total of three (!) times and also lost the first section with 1:6. Ymer is getting better The reason for the clear result was Sinner's offensive power, which literally pushed Ymer away from the baseline despite his good defensive qualities. This image was also presented to the frenetic spectators in the second movement - with one important exception. While Riccardo Piatti's protégé kept his mistakes to a minimum in the first half, he began to spread the ball significantly more as the minutes wore on. As a result, Ymer found his way into the game better, became more courageous - and broke Sinner when the score was 3:3. The Swede had to fend off three consecutive break points in the game. The set win? Not at all. When Ymer served for the round, Sinner fended off a set point and got the break back thanks to a fantastic rally. And that's not all: just a few moments later, the super talent made it 6:5 before he broke again - 7:5!

The basic reason for this was that Sinner changed his tactics slightly, showed greater patience and therefore made fewer unforced errors. But the Swede's resistance was not yet broken: Sinner had to fend off four break points early in the third set before he found three and actually took advantage of one of them. But because the chair referee didn't notice a clear double impact during a stop, the score remained 2-2, even though it should have been 3-1. Unfazed by this, the ever-focused Sinner erased four more break points - again and again with his forehand, which was undoubtedly his most dangerous shot that day. With this momentum behind him, he increased the pressure on Ymer, played three strong points on his service and got the break - 5:3 for the South Tyrolean. Afterwards, serving it out was just a formality. Next duel with Nadal Jannik Sinner will reach the round of 16 of the French Open for the second time in a row. Sinner will face Rafael Nadal in the round of 6 on Monday. The Spaniard beat Briton Cameron Norrie 3,6:3,6:3:14. The Spaniard is aiming for his XNUMXth title at the second Grand Slam tournament of the tennis season.

Sinner and Nadal have faced each other twice so far: in last year's French Open quarterfinals and almost a month ago at the Masters 1000 tournament in Rome. Both times Nadal was able to prevail in the end without losing a set - even if Sinner was able to put him under pressure each time.
