Sinner: “There is still a lot of work to do”

On Sunday (local time) Sinner won an ATP 500 tournament for the first time in Washington. In a highly exciting final, he defeated the American Mackenzie McDonald 2:54, 7:5 and 4:6 after 7:5 hours of play (the detailed match report can be found here) .

Even in the hour of his greatest success, Sinner remained ambitious. Of course, the Sesto native, who celebrates his 16th birthday on August 20, doesn't want to rest on his laurels. “Honestly, I think there is still a lot of work to be done. I can learn a lot of things from today,” said Sinner. It was a fantastic week, he said with satisfaction. “The next tournament will begin soon,” he said, focusing on the tasks ahead.

After the final in Washington, Sinner continues in Toronto. The 19-year-old is one of the 2,85 seeded players at the $16 million ATP Masters tournament in Canada who have a bye in the first round. The tournament will probably only start for him on Wednesday with the 1nd round. Then he meets the world number 2. Taylor Fritz (USA) or qualifier James Duckworth (ATP 42/Australia). There could be a duel with Russian Daniil Medvedev as early as the round of 80. The world number two is ranked number 1. Sinner is also playing doubles in Toronto (with Poland's Hubert Hurkacz).

Only 5 were better After his third tournament victory on the ATP Tour (in November he won the ATP 3 tournament in Sofia and in February that in Melbourne), Sinner is now in 250th place in the ATP world rankings.
