Sinner is the King of Belgium

Everything was in place for a dream final: Sinner (ATP 13) moved into the final as the top seeded player without losing a set. But his opponent, the Argentinian Diego Schwartzman (ATP 14), who was seeded number 2, had not yet given a set in this tournament to date. He only had to go into a tiebreak against veteran star Andy Murray. Ultimately, the dream finale became a clear affair. Sinner acted too well, too strong, too confidently. The 20-year-old from Sesto hardly gave the 29-year-old South American a chance and won confidently 1:16, 6:2 after 6:2 hours.

But first things first: Sinner got off to a strong start in the first set and got the first break in the third game with a cracking forehand winner. He then served his own serve without losing a point. Already in the early phase of this encounter it was clear: Sinner really wants this victory. The momentum was on his side and the Argentine had little to counter the great South Tyrolean. In the 5th game, the Pusterer got the next break and took the lead 4-1. During his own service he then fended off two break points and increased the lead to 2:5. Schwartzman once again showed morale and fended off two break and set points. Immediately afterwards, Sinner made everything clear and won the first set in 1 minutes.

In the second sentence, the same image from the beginning: a Sinner in a great mood. In the first game, the Sesto native took the serve from the Argentinian - and to zero. Sinner also served his own serve without losing a point. The game now resembled a demonstration of power. But Schwartzman didn't give up at this point either and got within 1:2. However, this was only a brief rebellion. With another game without losing any points, Sinner took the lead 3-1 and immediately afterwards managed the break to make it 4-1. This was the final preliminary decision; the South American's resistance seemed to be broken. Schwartzman served his own serve again, but with his own service, Sinner earned two match points with a 40:15 lead - and converted the second one.

For Sinner it was already the 4th ATP tournament victory this year. He continues to write tennis history: never before has a player from Italy won 4 ATP titles in just one season. Overall, it was his 5th ATP success in 6 final appearances. He will climb to number 11 in the world rankings. The next tough test is already on the agenda for Sinner these days. The 20-year-old is taking part in the top-class ATP 500 tournament in Vienna. On Tuesday or Wednesday, Sinner, who is seeded number 7, will face US serving giant Reilly Opelka (ATP 25) in the round of XNUMX.
