Sinner makes short work of Kohlschreiber

Both Sinner and the German, who lives in Kitzbühel, slipped into the main field of the first clay court tournament of the year thanks to a wild card and promptly faced each other in round one in a true generational duel (Sinner is 19 years old, Kohlschreiber will soon be 37). In this, the South Tyrolean acted much more lively, more focused and more powerful. From his Back injury suffered at the US Open was no longer a trace. After just 67 minutes and a final score of 6:3, 6:2, he was the first round winner.

Jannik Sinner caused cheers among the relatives, acquaintances and tennis fans from South Tyrol who had come especially for the event.

On Wednesday afternoon, the number 74 in the world and the number 75 dueled on the center court of the extensive tennis facility in the Gamsstadt. During the game, however, a class difference became noticeable that can be classified significantly higher than the one position in the ATP ranking. Sinner actually only had one wobble in the entire game, namely when he conceded a clean re-break in the middle of the first set. But he was already 4-2 ahead. He then promptly took the next service from Kohlschreiber, who was surprisingly weak on serve that day, and raced to win the set. In the second round, the man from Sexten started straight away with a break, paving the way for an unchallenged opening victory. Now against the Seppi conqueror Sinner remains undefeated against the German veteran, as he had already won the only meeting in Vienna last year. In Kitzbühel he will now face the in the second round on Thursday Qualifier and Seppi defeater Laslo Djere (ATP 81). Sinner is the favorite in the race against the Serb - even if sand is his preferred playing surface.

Jannik Sinner made an impressive season debut on clay at the renowned ATP 250 tournament in Kitzbühel. He shot the two-time Kitz winner Philipp Kohlschreiber off the pitch in around an hour of play.
